PCT South California, PCT Thru Hike / 21.04.2018

Hiked 26.3 miles today. At mile 427. It was a cold night and windy, but I was so worn out that I went to sleep soon after I ate. The climbing and the weight of my pack has piled on these last 3 days so that for the first time in a while, my legs are sore. I got an early start a little before 7 am and before long it started snowing! This was a complete surprise since I had not seen this forecasted. Eventually the clouds lifted enough...

Hiked 17.3 miles today. At mile 444.3. Last night while sleeping I had sore feet. They really ached! It’s strange because they only hurt a little and on occasion while I hiked. I’ve had the same experience earlier in the hike, but with my knees and legs. No problem during the day, but at night, another story. I think it is like when your fingers get cold. They don’t really start hurting until you start warming them. As long as my feet are being used they are okay, but when...

Hiked 16.3 miles today. At mile 460.6.m so tired, I can barely write this. It is nearly 10 PM and I night hiked to a spot on a mountain overlooking the lights off Agua Dulce. Here is the Santa Clara river. Gren slime.   Here are photos of the hike out of Acton. I came over the mountain and saw this freeway in front of me.   Here is Vasquez rocks. Aren’t family meal spaghetti at Big Mouth Pizza and felt unwell due to overeating. This is just one garden at Hiker Heaven. My resupply box was...

Hiked 21.8 miles today. At mile 482.4. It was a day for the critters. Got stung by 2 bees and saw my 3rd Rattlesnake. The snake was hiding in a bush beside the trail and rattled when I passed. I l also saw the largest lizard so far, 12 inches; it seems the hotter it gets, THe larger the lizards grow. The morning started with the most beautiful green mountain meadows I had  seen on this hike. Upon crossing a mountain ridge, the landscape changed to a hot dry landscape...

PCT South California, PCT Thru Hike / 24.04.2018

Today I hiked 20 miles. At mile 502.4. The PCT is always surprising me. Nearing th Mojave valley, I expect to walk through desert and I did for a short while in the morning, but everything quickly changed as I began to move into trees. I saw a greater diversity of plant life here on the edge of the Mojave. Here is so sort of weeping pine Inhad not seen until now. Here is an arid view in the morning. As I drew closer to the Mojave desert, everyuaround me greened  up...

PCT South California, PCT Thru Hike / 25.04.2018

Hiked 15.4 miles today.  At mile 517.6 Early this morning I hiked into Hikertown where I met my cousin Margaret of Lancaster, CA who arrived with loads of trail magic for me and the other lucky hikers who happened to be at Hikertown. After devouring the 2 Burger King whoppers she brought me (credit to Cousin Ed for the hamburger idea) and saving apples and veggies with hummus dip for afternoon snack (credit to Cousin Kate for that trail magic idea), we drove to Lancaster for shower, laundry, more...
